Houston – The prestigious 2025 Texas Michelin Guide Ceremony will take place on October 28 at the Wortham Theater Center in downtown Houston. This yearly event celebrates the finest dining experiences in Texas, ranking among the most anticipated culinary events in the state.
This marks the second annual Michelin Guide ceremony for Texas, designed to honor outstanding restaurants. It is an invitation-only event that will attract chefs, restaurateurs, and influential figures from the culinary industry, who will gather to learn which restaurants have earned stars and additional accolades this year.
Anonymously selected Michelin inspectors have spent the past year visiting and evaluating restaurants across Texas to determine this year’s awardees. Last year, the inaugural Michelin Guide for Texas recognized 15 restaurants with stars, including six one-star establishments located in Houston:
- BCN Taste & Tradition
- Corkscrew BBQ
- Le Jardinier
- March
- Musaafer
- Tatemó
In addition to star ratings, 44 restaurants statewide received Bib Gourmand designations for offering quality meals at reasonable prices, with 17 of those recognized in Houston, including acclaimed spots such as CasaEma and Belly of the Beast.
The ceremony held last year at the 713 Music Hall showcased red décor and drew a crowd of hundreds, spotlighting the culinary talents of Texas as well as the state’s rich gastronomic traditions. Notably, the first edition of the Michelin Guide for Texas made history by awarding a star to Corkscrew BBQ, which became the first barbecue restaurant to achieve this accolade in the state.
Although the inaugural awards were met with excitement, they were not without controversy. There were concerns and disputes surrounding the rescinding and subsequent reinstating of Bib Gourmand invitations for some restaurants, which stirred discussions within the culinary community.
In a move to solidify Texas’s place in the Michelin universe, Houston First Corporation, the city’s tourism organization, has committed $270,000 to maintain the Michelin Guide’s presence in Houston for three years at a rate of $90,000 annually. This commitment emphasizes the city’s dedication to supporting and enhancing its gastronomic reputation.
The Michelin Guide is renowned globally for its rigorous evaluation process, awarding one, two, or three stars based on exceptional culinary quality, while also continuing the Bib Gourmand recognition aimed at value-oriented restaurants. However, a new factor introduced this year is that recognition is not permanent; restaurants may lose their stars or Bib Gourmands in subsequent years if standards drop.
As of now, no restaurant in Texas has attained the prestigious distinction of two or three Michelin stars, highlighting the competitive nature of the Michelin ranking system. Nevertheless, Gwendal Poullennec, the international director of the Michelin Guide, expressed enthusiasm about recognizing the vast and diverse culinary talent found across Texas.
The Michelin Guide, initially launched in 1900 as a resource for motorists, has evolved into a globally recognized authority on fine dining. Since expanding across North America in 2005, the Guide has included regions such as Texas, Mexico, and Quebec, significantly enhancing its scope. The emergence of Texas barbecue cuisine has played a pivotal role in garnering attention for the state’s culinary scene, which is characterized by a fusion of diverse flavors reflective of regional heritage.
