Greenland, NH – Linda Martinez Ellison, a multifaceted artist and cherished member of the community, passed away at the age of 73 on May 20, 2025, at her home in Greenland, surrounded by friends and family. Her death marks the loss of a vibrant personality known for her artistic talents, entrepreneurial ventures, and warmth towards others.
Born on July 25, 1951, in Houston, Texas, Linda was the second of nine children. She was predeceased by her mother, Ernestine Martinez, but is survived by her father, Angel Martinez, and seven siblings: Dolores Evans of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Sylvia Lynch of Melrose, Massachusetts; Joseph Martinez of Katy, Texas; Robert and Michael Martinez of Houston, Texas. Linda leaves behind her son, Connor Ellison, of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and her husband, John Ellison, with whom she shared 36 years of marriage.
Linda’s engaging and bubbly personality left lasting impressions on everyone she encountered. She had a remarkable ability to connect with strangers, making her presence felt in various aspects of her life. Throughout her journey, she amassed an impressive array of accomplishments that reflect her diverse interests and talents.
Linda was a passionate artist who studied at The University of New Hampshire and completed additional coursework at the Rhode Island School of Design. Her artistic pursuits were a significant aspect of her identity, allowing her to express her creativity and connect with her community through various mediums.
An avid marathon runner, Linda participated in multiple events, including The Ocean State Marathon in Newport, Rhode Island, where she achieved an impressive finish time of 3 hours and 56 minutes. Her dedication to fitness reflected her energetic spirit and love for life.
A skilled gardener, Linda created stunning flowering gardens across New England and served as president of The Portsmouth Garden Club in the mid-1990s. She generously shared the fruits of her labor—beautiful bouquets of flowers—with friends and neighbors, further enhancing her connections within the community.
Linda’s love for music was evident in her sweet singing voice. She served as president of her high school glee club, relishing the opportunity to share her passion for singing with family and friends.
In the mid-1980s, Linda demonstrated her entrepreneurial skills by founding “Seacoast Directions,” which produced one of the first tourist maps for the New Hampshire Seacoast. Her business expanded into Newburyport, Massachusetts, and Ogunquit and Portland, Maine, marking her success in the tourism and mapping industry.
After selling her map company, Linda embraced the role of a stay-at-home mother, finding creative ways to educate her son Connor. She was well-known for her affectionate way of expressing love, often saying, “I love you more than infinity +++.” Her contributions to her family extended beyond motherhood; she played a pivotal role in instilling a love for cooking, gardening, literature, and art in her husband, John, fostering a rich and loving home environment.
Linda’s life will be celebrated at a gathering planned for late July, with the exact location to be determined. Her obituary was posted online on June 6, 2025, marking the end of a life lived with passion, love, and creativity.
