Born on May 30, 1944, in Corpus Christi, Texas, James was the son of John Lester Embry from Indianola, Mississippi, and Lena Ganc Embry from Corpus Christi. After graduating from W. B. Ray High School in 1962, he attended Del Mar College for two years before transferring to The University of Texas in Austin, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aerospace Engineering.

Upon completion of his education, James moved to Dallas, Texas, to launch his career in the aerospace industry. Throughout his tenure, he held engineering positions at several prominent companies. His employers included Varo in Garland, LTV in Grand Prairie, Martin Marietta at the Michoud facility in New Orleans, Martin Marietta in Denver, and McDonnell Douglas in Houston. Additionally, during an economic downturn in the aerospace sector in the late 1960s, he took a role in the Department of Planning and Urban Development for the City of Dallas, later serving in an engineering capacity within the Department of Building Inspection for an extended period.

In 1973, James married Debra DeWolf Embry at Mary Immaculate Church in Farmers Branch, Texas. Together, they raised two sons: Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Embry, USAF, and Joshua Embry, who works as a Texas history teacher. Andrew and Joshua each have children, with Andrew’s daughters Claire and Stella and Joshua’s daughter Jade adding to the family legacy.

James was deeply interested in history and was known for his intellectual pursuits, interests, and debating skills. His commitment to community issues was notable; he was a strong supporter of Right to Life efforts. Family was a cornerstone of his life, and he is survived by his beloved wife, Debra, his two sons, and his two brothers, Rob Embry (and his wife, Susan) and John T. Embry. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, along with his wife’s large family, which includes several sisters, nieces, nephews, and a great nephew.

James is preceded in death by his parents and a baby sister named Rebecca, as well as a brother, Terry, who passed away just three months prior. The family finds solace in their grief with the belief that James and Terry are together in heaven.
