Houston community comes together to support flood victims in Kerr County
In response to the tragic flooding in Kerr County that claimed at least 68 lives, including 28 children, the Houston community is mobilizing to provide aid. Donation drives are organized from July 7 to 10 to collect essential supplies such as hygiene products, clothing, and food. Local businesses and organizations are participating, including a special initiative led by a veteran- and first-responder-owned company. The NFL teams have also pledged significant donations, highlighting the solidarity between Houston and Kerr County as recovery efforts continue.
Houston – Efforts are underway in the Houston area to support residents of Kerr County who have been devastated by severe flooding that has resulted in the tragic loss of at least 68 lives, including 28 children. As of July 7, Kerr County authorities continue their recovery operations, which have prompted a massive response from the Houston community aimed at providing essential supplies to flood victims.
From July 7 to July 10, organizations in Houston are mobilizing to collect donations, including hygiene products, clothing, food, and other necessities for those impacted by the flooding. A special initiative led by a veteran- and first-responder-owned company is organizing a weeklong drive to fill a box truck with these essential items, with plans to pick up donations on July 10 and deliver them to Kerr County on July 11.

Drop-off hours at VFW Post 8790, another collection site, are from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. daily until July 10. Individuals making donations will also have the opportunity to receive free waterpark tickets for contributions made at Typhoon Texas, which is accepting critical supplies from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. until July 10.
Requested items for donation include hygiene products, toiletries, trash bags, diapers, and clean, gently-used clothing and shoes. Donors are reminded to sort and label donations by category and to ensure hygiene and food items are new, sealed, and within expiration dates. Used items such as clothing, linens, and toys must be clean, smoke-free, and pet-hair-free; perishable foods and used mattresses are not accepted.
Several organizations are participating in the relief efforts, including Houston Millennials, Hearts of Grace, SGIA, VFW 8790, Finally by Faith, Hoodies for Healing, and World Youth Foundation. Additionally, the Alvin High School Student Council is collecting items at their Horseshoe Drive location, while the University of St. Thomas has pledged its support by sending trailers filled with recovery supplies to Kerrville and accepting donations until July 10.
In a significant show of support, the NFL organizations, including the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Texans, have committed a combined $1.5 million to the flood recovery efforts. The Cowboys have matched the Texans’ donation, indicating their dedication to aiding the affected communities.
Kerr County officials are continuing to conduct organized recovery efforts and are requesting that the public avoids conducting private searches for missing persons, as this may hinder their operations. Those with information about missing persons can reach out via email to kerrvillemissing@dps.texas.gov.
In addition to material donations, the community is also being encouraged to contribute financially to the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country’s Kerr County Flood Relief Fund. These contributions will directly support ongoing relief and rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of the flooding, as the community works together to recover from this devastating disaster.
As efforts continue, the solidarity displayed by Houston and Kerr County communities serves as a beacon of hope for those affected by one of the worst flooding events in recent memory.
