HTX Surf, Houston’s premier surf park, is set to break ground in early 2023, with plans to open its doors in the fall of 2024. The surf park will be located within Generation Park, a sprawling development situated just ten minutes from Bush Intercontinental Airport. Designed to be a major attraction for both locals and tourists, HTX Surf is expected to welcome over 200,000 visitors annually.
HTX Surf will utilize a cutting-edge Wavegarden Cove consisting of 52 modules that can generate up to 1,000 waves per hour, providing surfers with a remarkable variety of over 20 different wave types suitable for all skill levels. This advanced technology aims to create a customized, ocean-like surfing experience, making it ideal for beginners and seasoned surfers alike.
The heart of the surf park will be a six-acre surf lagoon capable of accommodating more than 70 surfers simultaneously across its diverse wave areas. In addition to surfing, HTX Surf will include a range of leisure facilities designed to enhance the overall visitor experience, including:
The park will not only offer surfing but also provide training programs that aim to improve surfers’ skills and techniques, catering to those looking to enhance their performance.
Beach Street Development has partnered with Wavegarden as the surf technology provider after a comprehensive evaluation of factors such as capital costs, operational expenses, energy efficiency, and overall wave quality. This partnership reflects a commitment to delivering a top-tier surfing experience while employing sustainable practices in the development of the facility.
John Luff, Senior Partner at Beach Street Development, has expressed optimism about the collaboration with Wavegarden, highlighting the potential for maximizing customer satisfaction and return on investment. Fernando Odriozola, Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer of Wavegarden, commended Beach Street for their knowledge and expertise in surf park development and operations, which is essential for the project’s success.
HTX Surf is part of the broader Generation Park initiative, a 4,000-acre development that aims to create an array of attractions and visitor experiences. The surf park is designed to fit within this innovative urban landscape, which already includes various amenities aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors in the Houston area.
In addition to HTX Surf, Beach Street Development is also engaged in bringing two more Wavegarden facilities to the United States. The Atlantic Park in Virginia Beach is scheduled to open in the summer of 2024, while the DSRT Surf facility in Coachella Valley is slated for a 2026 opening. These developments signify a growing trend towards creating inland surfing experiences in the United States, further establishing surf parks as viable and sustainable entertainment options.
With its innovative technology, diverse range of attractions, and strategic location, HTX Surf is anticipated to make a significant splash in Houston’s recreational landscape, offering both thrilling surfing opportunities and a community-centric environment.
