Houston, Texas – Jane Lee Chung, a beloved nurse and restauranteur, passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on July 22, 2025. She is fondly remembered for her dedication to her community and the numerous lives she touched throughout her extensive career in healthcare.

Chung was a long-time resident of Houston, known for her caring nature and deep connections within the community. As a devout member of the Chinese Baptist Church and the Chinese Professional Club, she left a lasting impact on those around her through her unwavering commitment to service and friendship.

Born in Taishan, Guangdong, China, Chung moved to Houston in 1951 to join her parents. She received her education at True Light Girls School in Hong Kong, later graduating as a Registered Nurse from the University of Houston College of Nursing in 1957. Her nursing career began at Hermann Hospital, specializing in obstetrics and gynecology. Chung was notably selected to be part of the pioneering group of nurses who established Park Plaza Hospital.

Throughout her career, she served as a clinical nurse and field nurse for the City of Houston Health Department, primarily working in the Sunnyside community. Her dedication and exceptional service were acknowledged when she was voted the Best Registered Nurse by the health department in 1995. Chung retired from public service that same year, cherishing the relationships she built with her coworkers and patients during her tenure.

In addition to her nursing career, Chung was well known for her role as a restauranteur, contributing to her father’s restaurant, Lee’s Den. She was dedicated to ensuring that every patron left satisfied and well-fed, reflecting her commitment to hospitality and care.

Chung is survived by her husband of 67 years, William Chung, as well as their two sons, daughters-in-law, and four grandchildren. She also leaves behind two sisters, one brother, and their spouses, along with numerous nieces, nephews, a great niece, a great nephew, and countless cousins and their families. Her family expressed gratitude to the staff at Brazos Towers at Bayou Manor for their compassionate support during her time there.

A visitation for Chung will be held at the Memorial Oaks Cemetery Chapel on August 8, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for August 9, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Chinese Baptist Church, located at 900 Brogden Rd, Houston, TX 77024. In lieu of flowers and gifts, her family requests that donations be made to the Chinese Baptist Church in her memory.

Jane Lee Chung’s legacy of care, community, and commitment to service will be fondly remembered by those who knew her. Her contributions to the field of healthcare and the restaurant industry, along with the love she shared with her family and friends, define a life well-lived.
