A second suspect, Justin Guzman, has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Anthony Sanders in a Houston Galleria parking garage. Guzman, 22, turned himself in and faces murder charges with a bond set at $750,000. The incident occurred during an altercation on June 3. A fellow suspect, Marko Cinan, was arrested previously and is charged with murder, with a bond set at $1 million. The shooting has raised community concerns about violence, prompting the victim’s family to advocate for change.
HOUSTON – A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of 30-year-old Anthony Sanders at a parking garage in the Houston Galleria. Justin Guzman, who is 22 years old, turned himself in to authorities on Monday afternoon, accompanied by his attorney. He is now facing murder charges and has been granted bond set at $750,000.
The incident occurred on June 3 when Sanders was fatally shot during an altercation at the Galleria’s orange parking garage. Witnesses reported seeing a black Chrysler 300 with shattered windows fleeing the scene shortly after the shooting took place around 5 p.m. Sanders was reportedly picking up his fiancée at the time, who had an earlier encounter with Guzman and another suspect, Marko Cinan, in an elevator.
Days after the shooting, on June 25, Cinan, aged 23, was arrested and is also facing murder charges, with a significantly higher bond set at $1 million. Both Guzman and Cinan are accused of firing multiple shots at Sanders, who is said to have confronted the suspects after an argument escalated, allegedly initiated when they brake-checked his car. Court records detail that Guzman fired at least ten shots during the confrontation. Despite Guzman’s claims of self-defense, initial reports indicate that Sanders was unarmed, as no weapon was found on him at the time of the shooting.
According to authorities, a gun with ten unfired rounds was discovered in the vehicle where Guzman was located after the shooting. Conversely, Sanders’ family stated he was attempting to leave the situation peacefully, which took a tragic turn.
Following the incident, Sanders’ family has sought justice for what they describe as an unnecessary loss of life. They have expressed gratitude for the swift actions taken by law enforcement in apprehending the suspects. At the time of the shooting, Sanders had his fiancée and their young son in the car, and thankfully, they were not harmed during the incident.
Guzman is set to make his initial court appearance on Tuesday, July 2, while Cinan’s next court date has been scheduled for September 9. The case has brought attention to concerns regarding violence in Houston, prompting the Sanders family to advocate for awareness and change in the community.
