Houston, Texas – This weekend, Houston is set to transform into a hub of entertainment with a series of festivals, concerts, and culinary events taking place from May 1 through May 4. From musical performances to immersive cultural experiences, residents and visitors alike will have a myriad of activities to choose from.
Kick off the weekend on May 1 at the First Thursday Block Party hosted by Mid Main Houston. This lively celebration features performances from the Sam Houston Mariachi Band, Little Outfit, and Greg Koch. Attendees can gain entry by donating $10, with all proceeds benefiting Plant It Forward, a local organization dedicated to supporting urban farmers.
Bringing classic hits back to Houston, iconic musician Billy Idol will perform this weekend, promising an evening filled with his timeless tracks. On May 2, the musical The Wiz will have its all-new production staged at the Memorial Hermann Broadway at the Hobby Center, celebrating 40 years of this historical and groundbreaking production.
On the same day, Jonathan Van Ness, known for their work on Queer Eye, will take the stage at the Houston Improv as part of their Hot & Healed tour, delivering a night of entertainment and heartfelt storytelling.
The Houston African Art Festival begins on May 2, honoring the wealth of African culture through live performances, art exhibitions, and delightful food options at 2509 Alabama in the historic Third Ward. Meanwhile, as the concert tour continues, Billy Idol will also perform with Joan Jett & the Blackhearts at The Woodlands on May 3, featuring classic tracks like “Rebel Yell” and “White Wedding.”
Theater enthusiasts can look forward to Stageworks Theatre’s opening of The Odd Couple, Female Version on May 2, a modern comedic twist on Neil Simon’s beloved original.
