Houston – The University of Houston Soccer team achieved a historic milestone on September 4, 2025, with a commanding 8-0 victory over McNeese at the Carl Lewis International Complex. This victory propels the Cougars to a season record of 4-0-1 and marks their highest goal tally since they scored eight against Texas Southern during the spring COVID season on February 10, 2021.

Senior Morgan Donohue opened the scoring for the Cougars just three minutes into the match. Donohue’s second goal of the season came from inside the penalty box, setting the tone for a dominant performance. Shortly after, in the 15th minute, sophomore Amanda Adams scored her first career goal with the help of junior Kyrsten Kizer’s assist, bringing the score to 2-0.

The scoring frenzy continued as freshmen Madyson Bentil and Amaris Bumba made their mark in the 33rd minute, with Bentil assisting Bumba’s goal from a corner kick. The first half concluded with junior Adelhia Ghonda scoring her fourth goal of the season in the 44th minute, assisted by freshman Nadia Ortiz, making the score 4-0 at halftime.

The Cougars showcased their offensive strength in the second half. In the 54th minute, redshirt junior Peyton Machado delivered a precise cross that found sophomore Casey Maddox for yet another goal. Minutes later, senior Cameryn Maddox provided an assist to sophomore Savannah Tafireyi, increasing the lead to 6-0 in the 64th minute. The scoring didn’t stop there; Bentil added another goal in the 77th minute, following a throw-in by freshman Samira Minor.

Cameryn Maddox capped off the scoring with her second penalty kick goal of the season in the 86th minute, sealing the historic victory. The Cougars’ defense also played a key role in the game, recording their fourth shutout of the season and allowing only one goal through the first five matches—a first in the program’s history.

Looking ahead, the University of Houston Soccer team will travel to Nacogdoches, Texas, to face Stephen F. Austin (SFA) on Sunday at 7 p.m. Following that match, the Cougars will return home to honor eight seniors during the game against UTRGV on September 11 at 7 p.m.

Fans are encouraged to support the Houston Soccer team through Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities and by joining the Cougar Reserves for financial assistance.
