Chefs celebrating at the Michelin Guide Texas restaurant announcements

News Summary

Houston is set to host the Michelin Guide’s announcement for Texas restaurant selections. On October 28, chefs will learn if their establishments earned Michelin stars or recognition. This marks the second consecutive year of Michelin awards in Texas, with Houston celebrating its culinary diversity. The event showcases the state’s vibrant dining scene, reflecting its rich heritage and array of flavors. The anticipation among chefs and restaurateurs highlights Texas’s commitment to high-quality dining experiences.

Houston is set to host the Michelin Guide’s announcement of its restaurant selections for Texas for the year 2025 on October 28. The ceremony will take place at the prestigious Wortham Center for the Performing Arts and will be an invitation-only event. Chefs in attendance will learn whether their establishments have earned coveted Michelin stars or if they have been included in the Bib Gourmand or Recommended lists.

This will mark the second consecutive year that the Michelin Guide has recognized restaurants in Texas. In the 2024 edition, which was previously announced, a total of 15 restaurants in the state received one Michelin star. Among those, six were located in Houston, a city known for its rich culinary diversity. The restaurants awarded one star include BCN Taste & Tradition, CorkScrew BBQ, Le Jardinier, March, Musaafer, and Tatemó. The Michelin star indicates “high quality cooking” that is worth a stop for diners.

Restaurants can achieve a maximum of three Michelin stars, but it is worth noting that no Texas establishments received more than one star in the previous year. Additionally, the 2024 Michelin Guide designated 45 restaurants in Texas as Bib Gourmands, with 15 of those located in Houston. Furthermore, a total of 57 establishments were labeled as Recommended, including seven in Houston.

Gwendal Poullennec, the international director of the Michelin Guide, has expressed enthusiasm about the forthcoming event, highlighting Texas’s thriving culinary talent. The Texas dining scene is characterized by a rich heritage and an array of diverse flavors and cuisines that reflect the state’s cultural dynamics.

The Michelin ratings focus solely on the quality of food, rather than the level of service or the ambiance of the establishment. Last year’s awards were viewed as a significant milestone for the Texas restaurant industry, given that the inaugural Michelin Guide for Texas was released on November 11, 2022. In that first year, the guide did not award any two or three-star designations, nor were any Green stars awarded for sustainable gastronomy.

The event also comes on the heels of a substantial financial investment in promoting the Michelin Guide in Houston. Houston First has allocated $270,000 toward bringing the Michelin Guide to the city for a three-year duration, signifying the importance of elevating the culinary status of Texas on a national level.

Michelin’s anonymous inspectors evaluate restaurants based on a variety of quality metrics, ensuring that the ratings are impartial and consistent. Notably, in addition to restaurant recognitions, the Michelin Guide also announced its first Michelin Key selection for outstanding hotels in the United States, which includes several prominent establishments in Houston.

As the Texas culinary community awaits the results of the Michelin Guide’s upcoming announcements, there is a palpable sense of excitement and anticipation among chefs and restaurateurs. The event is expected to further solidify Texas’s standing as a vibrant culinary destination in the United States, showcasing its ongoing commitment to high-quality dining experiences.
