HOUSTON, Texas — A brief pursuit by federal immigration agents ended in a minor crash Thursday morning on Old Foltin Road in northwest Harris County, near Antoine Drive and SH 249 on the Houston area’s northwest side.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office said the collision took place in the 12400 block of Old Foltin at about 6:40 a.m. Two U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in separate unmarked vehicles were trying to stop a man in a blue Ford pickup who, according to the agents, was in the country illegally and had prior deportation orders. He drove off when the agents switched on their emergency lights.
The chase covered only about 200 feet. Deputies said the truck failed to make an S-curve, left the pavement and went into the dirt, then returned to the roadway, and moments later an agent’s vehicle clipped the rear of the pickup, breaking a taillight. The driver parked, ran a short distance and was caught by the agents.
The man, in his early 50s, complained of chest pain after his arrest and was taken to a hospital, where he was last reported stable. Agents told deputies he was not injured in the collision. His name has not been released, and investigators have shared nothing further about his immigration history.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the office’s Vehicular Crimes Division is investigating with the District Attorney’s Office, and investigators have not yet reviewed body camera or other video from the agents. Earlier this month, another crash tied to an ICE chase in the county followed an earlier pursuit on Clay Road near Highway 6.
