Community Mourns the Loss of Esteemed Veteran and CPA

Houston, Texas – Pinckney Franklin “Frank” Steed Jr., a beloved veteran and certified public accountant (CPA), passed away on July 15, 2025, at the age of 89. Steed, known for his warm demeanor and welcoming smile, left behind a legacy of service to his country, family, and community.

Early Life and Education

Born on July 21, 1935, in San Antonio, Texas, Frank was the son of Dr. Pinckney Franklin Steed and Yeola Stitt Steed. He demonstrated early leadership and dedication as a student at the Texas Military Institute (TMI), where he received recognition by being selected as part of the Honor Guard that welcomed General Douglas MacArthur at the Alamo. Alongside his academic achievements, Frank excelled in athletics, earning All-State honors in basketball during his high school years.

He went on to receive a degree in accounting from the University of Texas. After completing his education, Frank moved to Houston and began his 48-year career as a CPA, working diligently to support local businesses and individuals.

Frank’s family life was equally notable. He married Sabra Stratton Steed, and the couple enjoyed over 60 years of marriage. Together, they raised five children: Scott, Londyn, John, Toryn, and Mark, along with their families. Frank was a devoted husband and father, and his faith played a pivotal role in his life as a follower of Jesus Christ. He actively participated in the Community Bible Study and Bible Study Fellowship, sharing his faith and values with others.

Beyond his family commitments, Frank dedicated himself to his community. He served as the treasurer for the Harris County Republican Party and held the presidency of the Houston Beta Theta Pi Alumni Association. His engagement extended to various organizations, including the Rotary, Jaycees, and Toastmasters International, where he honed his public speaking skills and won awards for extemporaneous speaking.

Military Service

Adding to his legacy of leadership and service, Frank served as a Captain in the United States Army, further exemplifying his commitment to his country. His military experience and understanding of history, particularly regarding military and the “Old West,” shaped much of his character and worldview.
