Lake Charles, Louisiana – Susan Lynette Christ, known affectionately to family as “Nannie,” passed away at the age of 82, leaving behind a lasting legacy of love and dedication to her family and community. Born on June 27, 1941, in Lake Charles, she was the second of ten children in a hardworking and close-knit family that emphasized the values of faith, family, and service.
Christ was not only a beloved mother and grandmother but also a pillar of strength and resilience. Throughout her life, she demonstrated these qualities as she moved through various cities while taking care of her younger siblings. Her immediate family described her as the “keeper of common sense,” always there for them as a loyal and dependable figure.
After completing her education at Catholic all-girls academies, Susan established herself as an exceptional athlete, earning accolades such as being crowned Frosh Queen at Mount Carmel Academy and double-lettering in volleyball and basketball at St. Agnes Academy in Houston, Texas. These early academic and athletic achievements laid the foundation for her successful career as an executive assistant, where she was recognized for her managerial skills and impeccable sense of style.
In her personal life, Christ met her husband, Lu Christ, at a Catholic Singles Mixer in Houston. They were married for 63 years, during which they established their home in West University Place, Texas. Together, they raised a family while actively participating in their children’s lives. She was known for her unwavering support, attending every sporting event and being instrumental in starting the West University Girls Softball Program for her daughters.
In addition to her sports involvement, Christ was the founder of “The Splash Bash,” an annual family carnival that became a cherished summer tradition for many. Her active engagement extended to service on the PTA and various local government councils, where she contributed to the well-being of her community.
Outside of her familial responsibilities, Susan enjoyed outdoor activities such as crabbing and fishing in Galveston Bay, which she often shared with family and friends. She was renowned for her cooking skills, particularly her seafood gumbo and pralines. These culinary talents were passed down to her children and granddaughters, creating lasting memories around the stovetop that the family holds dear.
Christ also participated in a “travel club” with her sisters, providing them with adventures filled with laughter and camaraderie. Throughout her life, she was respected for her honesty and protectiveness over those she loved, always willing to assist others in times of need.
Following her death, Christ is survived by her husband Lu, their children, grandchildren, numerous siblings, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Shirley Boudreaux, and her brother, Gary Boudreaux.
As the family prepares to honor her life, a vigil and visitation will be held on August 15, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on August 16. The family expressed gratitude to the caregivers at The Village of Southampton for their support during her transition to life everlasting. Those wishing to honor her memory may contribute memorial donations to The Brookwood Community, an organization associated with her sister.
As they reflect on her legacy, family members remember Susan Christ for her selfless actions and the love she shared, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.
