A mother in Houston is heartbroken after her 2-year-old daughter, Egypt, was killed in a hit-and-run incident at an apartment complex. The accident took place while Egypt’s father briefly stepped inside their home, leading to the tragic event. The family is left mourning the loss of a vibrant child, and they are urging for justice and answers in this devastating situation.

Houston – A mother is grieving the loss of her 2-year-old daughter, Egypt, who was killed in a tragic hit-and-run incident on Wednesday evening at an apartment complex in southwest Houston. The event occurred around 5:45 p.m. at 3401 Ocee Street, leaving the family and community in shock.

Allana Gray, the mother of Egypt, was running errands when the accident unfolded. At the time, Egypt’s father was supervising both Egypt and her 4-year-old brother outside their apartment. While the father briefly stepped inside to retrieve his phone, the critical moment that led to the hit-and-run took place. Upon his return, he learned from the 4-year-old that Egypt had wandered into the parking lot.

Gray was notified of the accident with an urgent phone call as she was making her way home. Upon arriving at the scene, she found bystanders and police amid a chaotic situation, which had escalated after a family member confronted individuals involved in the incident with a firearm. Gray described an overwhelming sense of disbelief upon seeing her injured daughter.

An ambulance was initially summoned, but feeling the response was delayed, Gray and Egypt’s father decided to drive her to the hospital while performing CPR on the way. Tragically, Egypt was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the medical facility. Following the devastating news of her daughter’s death, Gray faced an unexpected ordeal with law enforcement, as she was detained, handcuffed, and taken to the back of a police car without being allowed to say goodbye to her daughter.

The police initially raised suspicions regarding Gray due to blood found on her vehicle upon their arrival. However, she was later released from custody after presenting receipts that established her alibi, proving she was not at the apartment during the time of the incident. Gray spent the night at the hospital and did not leave until the early hours of the following day.

Gray emotionally recalled Egypt as a smart, funny, loving, and protective child, reflecting on the profound loss her family has suffered. Meanwhile, the investigation into the hit-and-run is ongoing, with Houston police reporting they have no updates regarding a suspect or vehicle description. The case remains particularly sensitive with the presence of the 4-year-old son who witnessed the incident but has yet to be interviewed by authorities.

Initial police responses to the apartment complex were prompted by a reported burglary, which added to the complexity of the situation as they discovered the tragic accident rather than the suspected crime. As the investigation unfolds, police have made a public appeal for information from the community. The Houston Police Department’s Hit and Run Unit is urging anyone with details regarding the incident or any potential leads to come forward. Residents are encouraged to contact the police with information that may aid in identifying the driver responsible for this heart-wrenching tragedy.

As the family mourns the loss of Egypt, community members stand in solidarity, hoping for justice and closure while the search for answers continues.
