News Summary

Houston will become the host city for the inaugural Untitled Art fair, scheduled for September 19–21. This marks Untitled Art’s first expansion beyond Miami Beach, showcasing 84 exhibitors, including 17 local Texas galleries. With the fair taking place at the George R. Brown Convention Center, it aims to elevate Houston’s art scene and support local artists, while also contributing a portion of ticket sales to community initiatives.

Houston to Host Inaugural Untitled Art Fair

Houston will be the new host city for the inaugural Untitled Art fair scheduled for September 19–21, 2025, with a preview day on September 18. The event is set to take place at the George R. Brown Convention Center, marking Untitled Art’s first expansion beyond Miami Beach, where it has successfully operated for 12 years.

This ambitious undertaking is expected to shine a spotlight on Houston’s vibrant art scene, particularly as the city reported the highest arts-related spending in Texas at $1.3 billion in 2022. Untitled Art founder Jeffrey Lawson views this expansion as a significant opportunity for artists and galleries, promoting growth and recognition within Houston’s diverse art community.

Exhibitor Participation and Local Representation

The fair will showcase a total of 84 exhibitors, with 17 local Texas galleries comprising approximately 20% of the list. Notable local galleries set to participate include Erin Cluley Gallery, Barbara Davis Gallery, and Sicardi | Ayers | Bacino. This strong local representation underscores Houston’s dynamic cultural landscape while providing local artists an opportunity to gain wider visibility.

In addition to Texas-based galleries, exhibitors from across the United States will include renowned names such as Altman Siegel and Jessica Silverman from San Francisco, as well as Charlie James Gallery, Luis De Jesus, and de boer from Los Angeles. Internationally, galleries like Patel Brown from Toronto and Montreal, El Apartamento from Madrid and Havana, and Cecilia Brunson Projects from London will also be featured.

Innovative Fair Design and Collaborations

The Untitled Art fair aims to create a cozy, intimate atmosphere within the expansive convention center, which is currently undergoing a $2 billion investment to revitalize Houston’s downtown area over the next 30 years. To enhance the visitor experience, the fair will include dedicated lounges for VIP guests and opportunities for live podcast recordings.

Furthermore, the fair plans to collaborate with prestigious local institutions, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, and the Menil Collection, to curate special projects that elevate the overall artistic dialogue during the event.

Supporting Community and Local Initiatives

Highlighting its commitment to the local art community, a portion of the event’s ticket sales will be donated to Rothko Chapel, which has recently reopened following damage caused by a hurricane. This initiative reflects the fair’s ethos of supporting and giving back to the community it inhabits.

The fair will also introduce a “Nest” section, featuring approximately 20 galleries offering reduced booth prices. This initiative will include galleries like 12.26, Martha’s Contemporary, and Murmurs, aiming to support emerging artists and smaller galleries in their quest for recognition.

Aiming for a Broader Audience

The directors of the Untitled Art fair have expressed enthusiasm about Houston’s evolving art landscape and the opportunity to draw attention to the city as a destination for art collectors and patrons. The rich diversity of Houston’s population and its growing collection of established and emerging art spaces positions the fair as a critical juncture for the city’s future in the art world.

Historically, Houston has hosted various art fairs, including the defunct Houston Fine Art Fair and Texas Contemporary Art Fair. Untitled Art’s entry into the Houston market presents a valuable opportunity to not only elevate the local art scene but also enhance Houston’s status in the broader national and international art community.

As excitement builds for the upcoming fair, participants, visitors, and local artists alike look forward to what promises to be a transformative event for Houston’s art scene.
