HOUSTON, Texas — With a playoff berth already locked up, the Houston Dynamo turn their attention to seeding Saturday night when Minnesota United visits Shell Energy Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. Central kickoff.
Houston sits fifth in the Western Conference at 13-9-8 with 47 points and four regular-season matches left, two points behind the top four and the home-field edge in the opening playoff round that comes with it. The Dynamo have been strong at home, going 8-3-4 in Houston. They clinched a postseason spot for the third time in four years after a 2-2 home draw with FC Dallas last weekend and other results around the league.
Minnesota arrives 13th in the West at 8-12-10 with 34 points and a 5-7-3 road mark. The visitors beat St. Louis 3-2 at home on Oct. 17 and will be without Alec Smir and Peter Stroud, both out with lower-body injuries, and Wil Trapp, who is in concussion protocol.
Houston will be missing defender Agustin Resch, who sits out a one-game ban for yellow card accumulation. Attacker Guilherme has had a hand in 26 of the club’s 41 league goals, and goalkeeper Jonathan Bond has 10 clean sheets, two short of the club single-season mark of 12 set by Tally Hall. Bond also anchored a run of five straight shutout wins that matched a league record.
The teams played to a 2-2 draw in Minnesota earlier this month. The club also extended head coach Ben Olsen’s contract this week through the 2027-28 season. After Saturday, the Dynamo head out on the road to Seattle on Wednesday, Oct. 28, and Portland on Sunday, Nov. 1.
