The deadline for candidates to file is August 18, with early voting set for October 20.

Houston – Incumbent Houston ISD trustee Bridget Wade has significantly bolstered her campaign for reelection by raising over $75,000, setting her apart from all other declared candidates vying for the five trustee positions in the upcoming election. Wade’s total contributions of $75,115 far exceed the combined total of her competitors, marking her as a front-runner in the race for District VII.

The financial support for Wade’s campaign comes from various major contributions, including $5,000 donations from notable individuals such as Melinda Hildebrand, a Houston philanthropist and U.S. ambassador to Costa Rica, and Peter Wareing, chairman of a Houston investment firm. Additionally, Houston oil executives Jim and Cherie Flores each contributed $5,000 to her campaign.

As a conservative candidate, Wade is seeking a second term representing District VII. Her campaign finance reports indicate that she has spent more than $17,233 on campaign-related expenses, with significant allocations including $12,500 for services from Beaver Media & Communications and $1,360.56 for consulting services provided by John Graves. Other campaign expenditures include over $2,396 spent on Anedot, a donation platform utilized for collecting online contributions, and $672 for advertising through Dolphin Graphics.

In her campaign statement, Wade expressed gratitude for the backing she has received from the community and reaffirmed her commitment to enhancing educational standards and supporting teachers within the district.

Looking at the competition, Audrey Nath, another candidate for the District VII seat, has reported raising over $32,000 and has spent approximately $1,576 on her campaign efforts. Other candidates in the race for trustee positions include Maria Benzon, a candidate for District V, who has reported minimal expenditures with only $32.50 remaining from her contributions. Incumbents Kendall Baker and Myrna Guidry, who are running for District VI and IX respectively, have reported no contributions or expenditures so far.

Furthermore, Felicity Pereyra and Michael McDonough, both candidates for District I and VI, did not file their campaign finance reports due to delays in appointing their treasurers, creating uncertainty about their election efforts. Sue Deigaard, a candidate for District V, reported campaign expenditures totaling $1,296 but has not made any public announcement regarding her intentions to seek reelection. Elizabeth Santos, seeking a position in District I, did not publish her July campaign finance report and has remained silent on her future election plans.

The deadline for candidates to file for the five trustee positions is set for 5 p.m. on August 18. Following the filing period, early voting is scheduled to commence on October 20 and will run through October 31, with Election Day taking place on November 5.

It is important to note that elected trustees at HISD are currently operating under a state takeover, which limits their authority. This academic intervention is administered by the Texas Education Agency, though the trustees are expected to regain oversight gradually after the agency concludes its takeover in June 2027.
