Community Flood Relief in Park Cities

News Summary

In Park Cities, local businesses are uniting to support families affected by recent flooding in the Hill Country. Navy Blooms is donating proceeds from their Texas Strong Tee sales to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund, while Sugar & Sage Bakery contributes with a special dessert. As the community rallies to provide assistance, over $30 million has already been raised to aid those impacted by this disaster, highlighting the deep community spirit that endures amid tragedy.

Park Cities Businesses Step Up for Hill Country Flood Relief

In the heart of Park Cities, kindness and community spirit take center stage as local businesses band together to support families affected by the devastating flooding in the Hill Country. Recently, heavy rains have wreaked havoc across this beautiful region, causing the Guadalupe River to overflow and leading to catastrophic consequences for many towns and summer camps.

Texas Strong Tee Sales to Aid Victims

Among the local businesses leading the charge is Navy Blooms, which has made a heartfelt commitment to donate a staggering 100% of the proceeds from their popular Texas Strong Tee sales—priced at just $25—directly to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund. This initiative is set to roll out on Monday, July 14, giving community members a chance to wear their support proudly.

The initiative doesn’t stop with Navy Blooms. A range of other Park Cities businesses are also pitching in, donating a full 100% of select purchases to flood relief efforts. Anyone interested can find a comprehensive list of these generous businesses online.

Delicious Treats for a Cause

And it gets even sweeter! Sugar & Sage Bakery has whipped up something special, a chocolate mousse inspired by the beloved “Messy Face Cake” that’s a favorite among the girls of Camp Mystic. With each sale of this delightful dessert, a portion of the proceeds will go toward a GoFundMe campaign aimed at supporting both families and staff from Camp Mystic.

The Scale of the Disaster

As of July 10, the situation has become grave, with 170 individuals reported missing and the heaviness in our hearts rising as the death toll has reached at least 119. The tragedy has hit Kerr County particularly hard, as 95 of the confirmed deaths occurred here. Local officials estimate that around 161 individuals are still unaccounted for and rescue operations continue relentlessly.

Community Support and Recovery Efforts

In a show of unwavering determination, Governor Greg Abbott has mobilized over 2,100 personnel, alongside more than 1,100 vehicles and equipment, for the ongoing flood response. Search and recovery efforts are critical at this moment, especially since unidentified bodies in the aftermath include 14 adults and 13 children. The community’s heartache is further deepened as six students from Highland Park ISD lost their lives in this catastrophe, leading to a demand for counseling services for grieving families.

A Community Coming Together

Despite the challenges, the community is exhibiting unmatched generosity. Numerous residents are offering food, shelter, and other forms of support to those in need. The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country has established the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund, which has already raised over $30 million in efforts to help those affected by these floods. The foundation’s emergency grants, totaling $5 million, focus on vital categories of support, helping to rebuild lives and restore hope.

Interestingly, local churches and organizations are rallying support by gathering monetary donations but have requested a temporary halt on physical donations due to overwhelming responses. Families in Park Cities have taken to tying green ribbons to trees and signposts in honor of flood victims, particularly those associated with Camp Mystic who are facing this tragic reality.

Ongoing Needs and Support

As the waters recede and rescue efforts continue, the Park Cities community is reminded that recovery is going to be a long road ahead, and the need for donations and support is still significant. Residents are encouraged to keep the relief efforts in mind and continue offering help wherever they can. Together, we can rebuild lives and strengthen our community in the wake of this heartbreaking disaster.
