Houston

A total of 30 Texas-based companies have been recognized among the best places to work in 2025, according to the annual “Best Companies to Work For” list released by U.S. News & World Report. This year, the list evaluated nearly 500 public and private firms, with a significant emphasis on employee satisfaction and workplace conditions.

The assessment by U.S. News involved an extensive analysis based on six key metrics. The organization utilized 30 additional data points to gauge factors such as employee sentiment, workforce structure, leadership quality, corporate ethics, potential lawsuits, and employee benefits. The results highlighted a diverse range of companies, with particular representation from major urban areas like Houston, Dallas, and Austin.

Recognized Companies

The companies featured on the list were organized without specific rankings, derived from a thorough combination of reader surveys and publicly available workplace information. The 2025-2026 evaluation introduced new criteria, ultimately including private firms and companies offering internships aimed at students and new graduates. Additionally, a new category was established to highlight employers who provide accommodations for employees fulfilling caregiver responsibilities.

Among the recognized companies in Houston, seven publicly traded and four privately owned firms stood out. Leading the pack, the oil and gas corporation Chevron topped the public employer list, lauded for its job security and comprehensive compensation packages. Chevron is one of the largest employers in the state, with over 45,000 employees and a reported annual revenue of $193.47 billion, alongside a market capitalization of $238.74 billion.

Chevron was also featured in multiple industry-specific lists, including “Best in Energy and Resources,” “Best Companies in the South,” and “Best for Internships,” reflecting its strong standing both as an employer and in its industry.

Private Firms and Job Stability

The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), a privately held firm based in Houston, was particularly noted for its commitment to work-life balance and job stability. Established in 1862, ABS specializes in classification services for marine and offshore assets, emphasizing safety and environmental preservation. The company employs between 5,000 and 10,000 people, with revenues estimated in the range of $1 billion to $10 billion for 2024.

In addition to its overall recognition, ABS was also included in the “Best in Engineering and Construction” category, showcasing its strengths in that specific sector.

Regional Competitors

Houston and the Dallas-Fort Worth metro areas each had 11 companies listed, affirming Texas’s robust employment landscape. Notably, Diamondback Energy from Midland was recognized for the second consecutive year, making it the only company from West Texas to achieve this honor. The recognition of diverse companies across various industries illustrates the range of opportunities available in Texas, emphasizing the state’s significant role in the national job market.

Texas companies also featured in other U.S. News lists that focused on job opportunities and specific sectors, showcasing the breadth of attractive career options available to prospective employees.

Conclusion

The inclusion of these Texas-based companies in the “Best Places to Work” list underscores their commitment to creating positive workplace environments and supporting their employees. As the job market continues to evolve, these firms exemplify the standards that many employers strive to meet.
