Houston – An arrest has been made in connection with the deadly shooting of 18-year-old Gregory Warren near Texas Southern University. The incident occurred on April 9, when Warren was found dead in the driver’s seat of his car at the intersection of Rosewood Street and Ennis Street. The suspect, identified as 31-year-old Abraham Jackson, fled the scene immediately after the shooting.

Almost two months later, Jackson was apprehended and has made his first court appearance facing murder charges. Prosecutors allege that Jackson arranged a cannabis deal with Warren through FaceTime, which led to the fatal confrontation. Witness accounts and evidence suggest Jackson shot Warren from the back seat of his car, targeting him in the neck and head.

During the incident, Jackson and another individual reportedly stole a backpack and a trash bag filled with heavy items from the vehicle, indicating possible motives related to robbery. A judge has set Jackson’s bond at $250,000, rejecting a request from his attorney for a reduction. The defense highlighted that Jackson has been living with his family and has not missed a court date in two years.

The judge, however, expressed concern for the severity of the crime combined with Jackson’s criminal history, which includes being on felony probation for aggravated robbery and serving a prior 15-year prison sentence. Prosecutors noted that the charges could potentially escalate to capital murder as the investigation progresses.

In the wake of Warren’s death, his family is actively seeking justice. The grief experienced by his loved ones has been profound, particularly as they reflect on how Warren moved to Houston for a new beginning. His sister described the loss as a “nightmare,” emphasizing that they wish for him to be remembered for his kindness and character.

Warren’s father has spoken publicly about the heartbreak caused by his son’s untimely passing. Unfortunately, the family has faced further tragedy. Warren’s mother, Tina Davis, who was 54, passed away just a week after her son’s murder, with family attributing her death to emotional distress related to the loss of her son.

The family plans to keep a close watch on the court proceedings involving Jackson, with the next court date scheduled for June 9. The Smith family’s experience highlights a growing concern over violence in communities and the impact such incidents have on families and neighborhoods.

As the case develops, community members and advocates continue to call for systemic changes to address the root causes of such violence. In the meantime, the Warren family is left grappling with their painful losses, advocating for accountability and justice for Gregory’s death.
