Pharr Students in Internship Program
Ten exceptional students from PSJA ISD have been recognized for their accomplishments in the Methodist Healthcare Ministries Grant Internship Program. These students have made significant contributions to the community while gaining valuable skills through hands-on training and paid internships. With opportunities in fields like cybersecurity and digital technology, the program is paving the way for their future careers. The city of Pharr is buzzing with excitement as ten exceptional students from PSJA ISD have been recognized for their accomplishments in the Methodist Healthcare Ministries Grant Internship Program. With their hard work and dedication, these students are shining stars in our community and exemplifying what it means to be future leaders.
The honorees include Jesus Alejandro Serna, Gavin Trevino, Hector A. Arriaga, Miguel Mendez, Jose Cantu, Miguel A. Aviles, Diego Naranjo, Orlando Robles, Yan Lucka Barajas, and Damian Rivera. Each student has successfully completed the internship program funded by Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Inc., propelling them towards future careers in high-demand fields.
The Methodist Healthcare Ministries Grant Internship Program is designed to empower students through special opportunities that lead to career readiness. The program goes beyond classroom education, offering paid internships, hands-on training, and valuable certification chances specially tailored for fields like cybersecurity and digital technology. The growth of this program has been remarkable this year, with students actively participating in a cybersecurity certificate program at South Texas College while serving as paid interns. Such opportunities can turn a student’s job prospects around, equipping them with skills that are in high demand.
This year’s participants took on the role of Digital Navigators, fostering digital literacy among peers and the community. This training prepares students not only to excel academically but also to help others navigate the ever-evolving landscape of technology. Among these bright students, a few stood out due to their remarkable dedication. Hector A. Arriaga clocked in an impressive total of 863 hours, with Miguel Mendez not too far behind at 807 hours, followed closely by Josue Serna with 786 hours of service. Their commitment is nothing short of inspirational, showcasing dedication that will surely carry them far in their future endeavors.
Assistant City Manager Cindy Garza Reyes noted that this is the first program of its kind in the region and state. The goal of the initiative is clear: to create educational pathways that foster workforce development.
