Apo del Rosario is mourning the loss of a beloved community member, Maria, who left a significant impact on the lives of those around her. From her humble beginnings in a small town to establishing a vibrant life in Texas, Maria’s journey was marked by resilience, love, and dedication.
Maria was born and raised in the small town of Apo del Rosario, where she experienced a rough yet loving childhood. Her early years were characterized by a close-knit family who emphasized the importance of hard work and support. As a young adult, Maria chose to leave her hometown and moved to California, driven by the desire to secure a better future for herself and to provide financial assistance to her parents.
While in California, her life took a new direction when she met a U.S. Airman. Their love blossomed, leading them to a life together that spanned various states, including Louisiana, and Mississippi, before ultimately settling in Houston, Texas. It was there that the couple established their roots and began a family, navigating through life’s challenges hand in hand.
Maria and her husband became entrepreneurs, starting Stelly’s Furniture Upholstery. They dedicated long hours to building their business, creating stunning furnishings, and taking pride in their craftsmanship. Despite facing financial hardships, their unwavering commitment to each other and their business allowed them to overcome adversities and thrive in their endeavors.
Outside of work, Maria was known for her varied interests. She had a passion for gardening, singing, and sewing, and took great joy in cooking authentic Mexican cuisine along with Cajun dishes that her husband favored. Family gatherings and summer trips back to Apo del Rosario were cherished moments where Maria maintained connections with her roots.
Maria deeply valued her family ties, often reminiscing about time spent in Louisiana with her brother and sister-in-laws. However, as time went on, Maria faced significant challenges, including the death of her husband in December 1990, which left a lasting impact on her life. Throughout her life, Maria was characterized by her strong, resilient nature and her unwavering love for her family.
Over the years, Maria embraced her roles as a grandmother and great-grandmother, showering her grandchildren with affection and nurturing. Although she faced her own health problems, particularly related to her heart, her love for family never faltered. The passing of her last brother, Tio Jose, profoundly affected her but did not diminish her dedication to family connections.
In her later years, Maria received care from Centerwell, where her family expressed heartfelt gratitude to her medical team, especially her doctor. Recognition also went to Davita Central for their dialysis services and to her caregiver, who provided her with support in daily life. Staff at HCA were acknowledged for their exceptional patient care, including a thoughtful gesture to decorate Maria’s hospital room for her birthday, showcasing their compassion.
As the community of Apo del Rosario comes to terms with the loss of Maria, her family wishes her peace in the afterlife alongside her beloved husband. Maria’s legacy of love, resilience, and dedication will continue to inspire those who knew her, leaving a lasting imprint on the hearts of her family and friends.
