Houston – A Harris County deputy was injured in a crash involving an e-bike in downtown Houston on Sunday night around 9 p.m. The deputy, who remains unidentified, was off duty at the time and riding an e-bike or dirt bike when the accident occurred.

According to preliminary reports, the incident took place at an intersection on W Dallas Street. The deputy was making a left turn when another vehicle allegedly cut him off. Details about the vehicle that caused the accident have not been provided, nor has the vehicle’s occupant been identified. Following the collision, the deputy lost control of the bike and crashed to the ground.

Immediately after the crash, several Good Samaritans who were nearby rushed to aid the injured deputy. They helped to lift the bike off him before a tow truck arrived on the scene. Although the deputy was conscious after the accident, he sustained injuries and was subsequently transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital for medical treatment.

Houston Police Department Lieutenant JP Horelica confirmed the details surrounding the accident, but no further information regarding the deputy’s condition has been disclosed as of the latest reporting. The department is actively seeking information from the public and encourages anyone who witnessed the incident or has pertinent information to contact police or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).

This incident highlights the growing concerns regarding traffic safety in urban areas, especially with the increasing number of e-bike users on the roads. E-bikes have surged in popularity due to their convenience and ability to help users navigate city traffic. However, this rise has also led to a greater need for awareness among all road users, including drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians.

As authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, they aim to gather more evidence that could aid in understanding the full scope of the incident and prevent future occurrences. With e-bikes becoming a common sight in many cities, both public safety officials and community members are urged to remain vigilant.
