The Grand Marshals will play a key role in the festivities leading up to the Pride Parade on June 28, 2025, an event part of Houston Pride’s rich 47-year history of promoting acceptance and celebration.
HOUSTON – Pride Houston 365 has named nine Grand Marshals for the upcoming 2025 Pride celebration, recognizing individuals and organizations for their significant contributions to the LGBTQIA+ community. The announcement was made during a festive Cinco de Mayo event held at Axelrad Beer Garden, highlighting the honorees’ dedication to promoting equality, representation, and advocacy within the community.
The selected Grand Marshals will play a vital role in various Pride festivities that lead up to the 2025 Pride Parade, scheduled for Saturday, June 28, in downtown Houston. This major annual event will be streamed live by ABC13, the official media partner for the parade.
Selection of the Grand Marshals was based on criteria including leadership, impact, and commitment to enhancing visibility for the LGBTQIA+ community. The announcement followed an initial call for nominations in February, which presented a list of fourteen finalists across five distinct categories: male-identifying, female-identifying, gender nonconforming/nonbinary, ally, and organization. A special Trendsetter Grand Marshal will also represent the youth and young adult community, marking an important first with the introduction of three Distinguished Grand Marshals.
The Pride Houston 2025 theme, “Celebration is Our Legacy,” emphasizes a commitment to inclusivity, equality, and recognition within the LGBTQIA+ community, reflecting a tradition that has been upheld for 47 years. Houston Pride has grown to become the third-largest pride event in the United States and ranks among the top 20 globally, drawing attention not just for its parade but for its blend of festivities, advocacy, and community engagement.
The history of Pride in Houston traces back to 1979, when the first Houston Gay Pride Parade was held in commemoration of the Stonewall Inn raid. Each year since, the event has evolved, fostering a culture of acceptance and celebration within the community. Organizers are dedicated to maintaining a strong focus on advocacy and ongoing community engagement, well beyond the festival and parade.
In addition to the parade, the 2025 celebration will feature numerous events, with the official unveiling of the Pride Celebration Logo and Grand Marshal nominees scheduled for February 5 at Lustre Pearl. Engaging a wide array of attendees, the Pride Festival will have affordable ticket pricing set at $5 in advance and $10 at the gate, while offering free entry for participants aged 21 and under, as well as seniors aged 55 and up.
