A Houston man has been charged with capital murder related to the disappearance of his girlfriend, Breandrea Wiley, who has been missing for over three years. The case has raised significant concerns within the community as the investigation revealed troubling evidence linked to the man, John Alberto Roman, who is already serving a lengthy prison sentence for an earlier crime. In a troubling tale that has gripped the city of Houston, a man has been charged with capital murder linked to the long-standing disappearance of his girlfriend, Breandrea Wiley. Breandrea has been missing for over three years now, and her case has sent shockwaves through the community.
Breandrea, who was just 19 years old when she vanished in January 2022, was supposed to testify against her boyfriend, John Alberto Roman, in an aggravated robbery case. Roman, 40 years old, has been embroiled in legal troubles since 2020 when he and Breandrea found themselves at the center of a police investigation following a violent robbery in Columbus, Texas. During that incident, Roman shot and tased a man under the pretense of meeting up with Breandrea. After the robbery, Roman was arrested but was released on bond.
In 2021, Breandrea moved to Houston to live with Roman, and everything seemed to progress normally. She kept in touch with her family regularly, had a job, and showed no signs of distress—up until her sudden disappearance on January 12, 2022. Surveillance footage captured the couple leaving their West Little York apartment early that morning. However, things took a troubling turn later that day.
Around 3:20 p.m., Breandrea communicated with her sister and made a pharmacy call before returning to their apartment around 4 p.m. Minutes later, she appeared quite upset on a phone call with her father, requesting her brother come pick her up. But before any help could arrive, Roman took the phone and hung up the call, which raised many eyebrows among family members.
Video footage shows that Breandrea was last seen just before 5 p.m. after which both her and Roman’s phones mysteriously left the apartment complex. Oddly, Roman returned alone around 5:45 p.m., behaving in ways that struck those around him as suspicious. He missed work and even visited urgent care the next day. A friend’s observation of a suspicious tarp with a strong bleach smell only heightened the community’s fears. Investigators later discovered bleach stains on the driveway at Roman’s mother’s house, which made them even more curious about the events that transpired that day.
Breandrea’s family reported her missing after they had not heard from her for over a week. Tensions escalated when authorities seized the couple’s Jeep and found blood spots and evidence indicating that Roman had possibly removed carpet from the vehicle. Roman reportedly isolated Breandrea by forcing her to change her phone number, limiting her contact with family and friends, creating even more red flags for investigators.
As the investigation unfolded, it was discovered that Roman allegedly saved sensitive documents from Breandrea’s phone, likely in a bid to thwart her testimony against him. Despite extensive searches, Breandrea’s remains have not yet been found. Roman is currently serving a 99-year prison sentence for the earlier aggravated robbery and is now gearing up for another trial, this time for Breandrea’s murder. Prosecutors have suggested that substantial evidence, including blood found in a rental car, contributed to the capital murder charges filed against him.
Although this legal progress brings a sliver of hope, Breandrea’s family remains heartbroken and anxious. They expressed a sense of relief that charges are finally being leveled against Roman but hold on to hope for the recovery of Breandrea’s remains. The watchful eyes of the Houston community remain focused on this unfolding case, as many await justice for the young woman whose life was cut tragically short.
